Logout Movie Review: What happens when the control of your life slips out of your hands and into the hands of someone else?
Director Amit Golani’s “Logout,” released on Zee5, is a psycho-thriller that questions smartphone addiction, the ostentatious world of social media, and its dangerous extremes.
The film is reminiscent of the 2018 Hollywood film Cam, in which a girl loses her identity when someone else is running her online channel in her place. Exactly the same is the case with Badhavasi “Logout” – but with an Indian context and sensibility.
The focus of the story – a prison that is not seen, but felt
26-year-old Pratyush Dua (played by Babil Khan) is a famous social media influencer.
His account, named Patman, has reached 9 million followers – and is now aiming for 10 million.
Before he opens his eyes in the morning, his hand is looking for the phone.
Be it brushing, mopping, or a breakup story – everything revolves around the phone and the content.
Her life is entirely dependent on social media – and when one day her phone and entire digital existence falls into the hands of an unknown person, her world is shaken.
What does the film say?
Here’s the line as the film begins:
“This is a prison designed according to your mind – and it has 7 billion prisoners. ”
And this is where the “cellphone” becomes a “cell jail.”
Pratyush is a character who posts fake breakups, trolling and even petting rats just to look ‘cool’ – so that the followers grow.
But in reality, he is imprisoned like a rat – in a cage of his own content.
Performance and technical front
- Babil Khan plays a character that is completely different from the art and web series “Railway Man.” Here, he looks a little unstable, a little lost, and a little scared – and this performance leaves a lot of impact.
- There are also actors like Rasika Dugal, Nimisha Nair, and Gandharva Diwan – but their screen time is extremely limited.
Most of the film is shot in a single room – which becomes a metaphor for the digital isolation that Pratyush is in, despite having millions of followers.
Writing and directing
This script, written by Vishwapati Sarkar, seems to be flat at times.
The film isn’t overly dense or intellectual – but it manages to speak for itself.
The film dares to show issues like content addiction and digital depression at the surface level.
See it or not?
If you are interested in psychological stories related to the world of social media and smartphones,
So ‘logout’ can definitely be seen once.
The film is clear in its message, the thriller elements are okay and Babil Khan’s acting adds life to it.
- The streaming platform is Zee5.
- Rating: 3/5
