The Diplomat Movie Review: A powerful story of a war of words, On Holi, people drenched in colors usually reach the theatres in the evening, and we too reach there to watch John Abraham’s latest film “The Diplomat.” The good thing was that the theatre was quite crowded, which means people are still supporting content-oriented Hindi movies, that too on the festival day!

What’s special in this movie?

The film is based on the theme of India vs Pakistan, but it does not have a hardcore approach like the films associated with it. It has two main advantages

Diplomatic View: This time the focus is on the role of a diplomat, whose tongue is his biggest weapon. It’s a more intelligent and strategic film than action.

Real-life story: The story is inspired by the real incident in which Indian diplomat JP Singh and then External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj rescued Uzma Ahmed from Pakistan in 2017.

What’s the story

The story of the film revolves around a woman named Uzma Ahmed, who goes to Pakistan from Malaysia on the call of her love. There she is forcibly married and kept as a slave. Somehow, she reaches the Indian Embassy, where diplomat JP Singh decides to help her. But getting him back to India is not so easy as it involves the politics of ISI and Pakistani officials.

How a diplomat can safely evacuate someone from an enemy country without taking up arms, just by his words and diplomatic skills, is the real strength of this film.

5 Highlights of the Movie

  1. John Abraham’s powerful performance: John has done a great job in the role of JP Singh. His restraint, sharpness, and attitude make him seem like a real diplomat.
  2. ✅ Sadiya Khatib’s emotional acting: Sadiya Khatib’s work in the role of Uzma Ahmed is commendable. Her performance makes the film more realistic.
  3. ✅ Revathi in the role of Sushma Swaraj: The character of late Sushma Swaraj ji is played by Revathi in this film, and she has presented it in a very impressive way.
  4. ✅ Dialogues and realistic approach: In this film, the dialogues have more power than hardcore action. Like -“This is Pakistan, there is no option here except threat!”
  5. ✅ Real glimpse of diplomatic mission: This film has been made in a research-based manner, which makes us understand how diplomatic operations are carried out on foreign land.

3 Negative Points of the Movie

  1. ❌ Slow Pacing: Some scenes seem a bit stretched, especially at the beginning of the film.
  2. ❌ Long Disclaimer: The disclaimer shown before the film starts is very long, which makes it seem like the film will start by the time the interval comes!
  3. ❌ Music is Average: The background score of the film is average, there is no powerful theme music that can immerse you more in the story.

Final Decision – Should you watch it or not?

If you like intelligent and real-life thrillers, then don’t miss this movie.

👉 Rating: 7.5/10

👉 What to watch? If you like mission-based movies, then definitely watch them!

👉 What to miss? If you like fast-paced action movies, then you may find this movie slow.

Overall – “The Diplomat Movie” is a brilliant movie with a different approach, which shows that real wars are fought not only with weapons but also with brains and diplomacy!
